On Friday, March 1, 2024, the Center for Intergroup Conflict and Peace (CICP) held Angkringan 1 with the main theme “A Home to Return to, How the Maiyah Community Nurtures Common In-group Identity.” Angkringan is a regular CICP event aimed at discussing research findings from CICP members in a relaxed, friendly, and open atmosphere for everyone.
In this Angkringan, Sofyan Hadi Surya was the presenter, moderated by Endah Probo Rini. Sofyan Hadi Surya presented his research findings on the Maiyah Community, which has a common in-group identity due to the bonds of brotherhood and trust that bind them. According to the research, the group’s identity in the Maiyah community remains strong because of forums for discussion and democratic exchange of aspirations among members, which foster the development of each member’s potential.
This research emphasizes the importance of viewing the bonds of brotherhood and trust as the foundation for the formation of Maiyah’s identity. Togetherness, willingness to embrace each other, and inclusiveness are key aspects in nurturing this identity.
The online event was attended by 30 participants who actively engaged in the discussion. With a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere, participants shared their views and experiences, enriching the discussion on the importance of nurturing a shared identity within the community.
This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions, and Goal 17, which encourages partnerships to achieve the goals. Through events like Angkringan, CICP continues to strive to build an inclusive, peaceful, and empowered community.
