CICP held its seventh Angkringan on June 28, 2024. This special session featured two distinguished speakers presenting on disaster-related topics. Nevi Kurnia Arianti delivered a talk on Psychosocial Support for Disaster Volunteers, accompanied by Intan Dewi Kumala who discussed Women and Disaster Resilience. Both speakers are PhD candidates in Psychology at UGM. The session was moderated by the dynamic Duma Marunung, a member of the CICP research team on disability and disaster.

The event was lively, attended by 25 participants online via Zoom. For an hour and a half, the speakers, moderator, and participants discussed how to provide psychosocial support to disaster volunteers and the role of women in disaster risk reduction. This discussion is highly relevant to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) goal 5 on Gender Equality and goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities, where women’s roles and psychosocial support are crucial in building disaster-resilient societies.

Nevi Kurnia Arianti highlighted the importance of psychosocial support for disaster volunteers, who often face emotional and physical stress while assisting disaster victims. This topic underscores SDGs goal 3 on Good Health and Well-being, focusing on ensuring the mental and physical well-being of volunteers. Meanwhile, Intan Dewi Kumala discussed women’s resilience in facing disasters, aligning with efforts to enhance women’s participation in disaster risk reduction and create more inclusive and resilient communities.

June has come to an end; don’t forget to stay tuned for the equally special Angkringan in July! Follow our social media for the latest updates and join in engaging and insightful discussions on these important topics.
