Center for Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (CICP) has just carried out a series of activities called the School of Researcher (SOR), which is CICP’s routine agenda for recruiting new research interns, from February to March 2017. This SOR was aimed for graduate students of Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) class of 2016. Seven graduate students of Faculty of Psychology applied and all of them were accepted. They were then offered to join one of the research clusters in CICP:

-Research Cluster Social Relation: Subluster Parent-Child Relation, Neighbor Relation, Friendship, Romantic Relationship, and Marriage
-Research Cluster Deception and Culture
-Research Cluster Mental Health and Culture
-Research Cluster Youth (Im) mobility: Social Relation in the Context of Youth Migration, Generation Y and Career Aspiration, Transportation Psychology
-Research Cluster Trust
-Research Cluster Leadership
-Research Cluster Spirituality
-Research Cluster The Dynamics of Personality Development: Suryomentaram Approach

The selection process was followed by activities such as SOR in class which aimed to introduce cultural psychology and indigenous psychology to the new research interns. Banyu Wicaksono, S.Psi., M.Sc. gave an explanation about indigenous psychology on February 28th, 2017, while Kurnia Rahmad Dhani, S.I.P., introduced three approaches in cultural psychology on March 3rd, 2017. Yuni, one of the new research interns, admitted that SOR in class gave her a deeper understanding of indigenous psychology, “So far, I realized that the approaches we’ve been using are those from the West. Yet, Indonesian culture is completely different from that of the West. Thus, we need to use different approach to understand them. (Fargha)
